On February 27, 2022, Yevhen Matvieiev, the mayor of Dniprorudne, bravely joined a human shield to obstruct the advance of Russian tanks.

On March 13, 2022, he was unlawfully detained by Russian occupiers at a checkpoint for refusing to cooperate with the Russian military.

As of now, Yevhen’s whereabouts are undisclosed, but according to the Red Cross, he is still being held captive.
