Iryna
Horobtsova

Civilian person, community activist
Kherson, Ukraine

The city of Kherson was under Russian Federation occupation from March to November 2022. On May 13, 2022, which happened to be Iryna’s birthday, individuals dressed in military attire and armed with assault rifles arrived at her home. The Russian military conducted a search of the apartment, confiscating Iryna’s two phones and laptop before detaining her and transporting her to an undisclosed location.

Iryna managed to send a letter to her family on November 01, 2022. However, due to Russian censorship, she was unable to disclose her whereabouts or the conditions of her detention in the letter. This communication marked the last contact with Iryna.

Despite efforts by Iryna’s relatives, with the support of Ukrainian lawyers, who filed numerous appeals to both national and international authorities, no information regarding Iryna’s location or the reasons for her detention has been obtained. Currently, Iryna’s whereabouts remain unknown, and there has been no contact with her since November 2022.
